History of the Department


Department of Physics was established in the year 1956 with Sri A. Subrahmanyam as the first member and Head of the department too. The department has highly qualified and well experienced teachers since its inception.

Vision and mission of the Department:


1. To deliver innovative and responsive education with high quality;
2. To develop both theoretical Physics and applied capabilities which are analytical, creative, systematic and independent to the students.
3. To motivate the students to gain advanced skills
4. To conduct Co-curricular activities such as student seminars, Study Projects, Quiz, Group discussion, etc. which help students go for higher studies and get employment.

Raja Rao ; Sri K.Somasekhara Rao ; Dr. N.V.Poornachandra Rao, Sri K.Vijaya Kumar; Sri D.Vigneswara Rao; Sri V. R. S. K. Ravi Kumar ; Sri V.V.Sekhara Prasad ,Sri D.V.Somaiah Sastry.

At present the members working in the Department are:


Dr K Ankama Rao, Sri. K. V. Raghava Rao and Dr K.Suresh, presently Dr. B.Subba Rao, working as a Principal of the College contributed to the all round development of this department.

The Department has the privilege of having five doctorates, out of which, three members pursued research under FDP in this college. Two members Dr NVPR and Dr BSR are Research directors under Acharya Nagarjuna University to guide the students to acquire Ph.D and M.Phil degrees. They together produce number of Ph.D and M.Phil degrees in the department. The department procured costly equipment, which helps research scholars to pursue their research work.

3 M. Phil and 6 PhD degrees are awarded under the guidance Dr. N. V. Poornachandra Rao. 7 M. Phil and 11 PhD degrees are awarded under the guidance Dr. B. Subbarao Rao.

Dr. B.Subba Rao, received State Best Teacher award in the year 2007.

For a number of years, PG Course in Physics was run very successfully. It has the credit of conducting Three National Seminars sponsored by the UGC. Two members are sanctioned Minor Research Projects by the UGC.

Department has a system with printer and internet facility.
The Department is well equipped and has a rest room too. It is fully furnished.
The Department has e-Class room with LCD Projector and Touch Screen Board.

The Department has a library with 225 books, maintains stock and issue registers and allows students to make use of the books and internet too.

Activities

The Department of Physics regularly organizes Guest lecturers twice per year with eminent and expert faculty from different Colleges and Universities for the benefit of the Students.

The department of physics celebrates National science day every year.

Department of physics offers a Certificate course for Students.

Department of physics organized three National Seminars.


1. UGC Sponsored national seminar on “Emerging Trends in Physics education and experimental physics” in 2006.
2. UGC Sponsored national seminar on “ Advanced materials for display and other Applications” in 2010
3. UGC Sponsored national seminar on “Industrial Important materials” in 2014.



The department of Physics organizes Lab on Wheels Programme at different Schools as Best practice of the department. The members of the department visit different schools with portable equipment and demonstrate its importance and working to enlighten the practical knowledge of the higher secondary school students.



Department of Physics conducts:

  Quiz Competitions and Buzz Sessions, which improve their knowledge and develop presence of mind
