History of the Department

The inception of the department of Physics took place in the year 1956 with Sri A. Subrahmanyam as the first member and Head of the department too.

Sri P. Venkateswara Rao ; Sri S.Subba Rao; Sri R.Suryanarayana; Sri A.Mallikarjuna Reddy; Sri K.Rama Rao; Dr. V.Venkata Rao;Sri K.purnachandra Rao;Sri D. Raja Rao ; Sri K.Somasekhara Rao ; Dr. N.V.Poornachandra Rao, Sri K.Vijaya Kumar; Sri D.Vigneswara Rao; Sri V.R.S.K.Ravi Kumar ; Sri D.V.Somaiah Sastry; Dr K Ankama Rao; Dr. B.Subba Rao, SRI. K. V. Raghava Rao and Sri V.V.Sekhara Prasad, presently working as a Principal of the Colege contributed to the all round development of this department.

The Department has the privilege of having four doctorates , out of which, three members pursued research under FIP in this college. Two members Dr NVPR and DR BSR are selected as Research Supervisors and they produced a number of Ph.Ds and M.Phils. The Department procured costly equipment ,which helps research scholars to pursue their research work.

For a number of years, PG Course in Physics was run very successfully. It has the credit of conducting two National Seminars sponsored by the UGC. Two members are sanctioned Minor Research Projects by the UGC

The Department is well equipped and has a rest room too. It is fully furnished.

The Department has e-Class room with LCD Projector and Touch Screen Board.

It has Four working laboratories:

Department has a system with printer and internet facility.

The Department has a library with 225 books, maintains stock and issue registers and allows students to make use of the books and internet too.

Activities

The Department of Physics regularly organizes Guest lectures with eminent and expert faculty from different Colleges and Universities for the benefit of the Students.

For the good of the students the Department of physics offers Two Certificate courses.

Department of Physics conducts

  Study Projects to develop research bent of mind in the students

  Quiz Competitions and Buzz Sessions, which improve their knowledge and develop presence of mind

  Group Discussions that develop leadership qualities and team work

  Organizes Industrial tours that give experiential learning to students

  Extension activities that lead to Community Service

  Innovative activities like Lab on Wheels ,wherein the members visit different schools or colleges with portable equipment and demonstrate its importance to students.
